Gannett Fleming Supports Offshore Wind Energy Industry at State-of-the-Art Turbine Manufacturing Facility
Gannett Fleming is contributing to the largest industrial offshore wind power investment in the U.S. to date as part of a new clean energy project. Gannett Fleming is providing electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system design, and other engineering services, at specialized welded steel pipe producer EEW’s wind turbine manufacturing facility at South Jersey Port Corporation’s Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Paulsboro, N.J.
Situated on a 200-acre riverfront site along the Delaware River, the facility is the first major offshore wind supply chain investment in the Northeast. The space is poised to produce the world’s largest steel monopiles, each weighing up to five million pounds. The steel components developed in the manufacturing facility will be used at offshore wind farms off the coast of New Jersey. Construction began in January 2021 after the team broke ground at the facility site.
Gannett Fleming’s commitment to sustainable practices includes a passion for renewable energy. “Wind energy is a safe, green, and efficient energy source that is invaluable to any community. We look forward to supporting our client’s manufacturing operations, which will provide this resource to many Americans,” said George Campanella, PE, senior vice president and director, facilities and power.
