Celebrate Milestones: East Atlanta, Northwest, and Alpharetta Libraries! https://www.fulcolibrary.org/blogs/post/celebrate-milestones-east-atlanta-northwest-and-alpharetta-libraries/ Fri, 20 Jun 2025 18:57:11 +0000 https://www.fulcolibrary.org/?p=9551258

This year, the Fulton County Library System is thrilled to celebrate significant anniversaries for three beloved libraries in our community: East Atlanta Library, which is marking its 20-year milestone, and the Northwest and Alpharetta Libraries, each celebrating 10 years of service. These anniversaries highlight the libraries' commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning and their invaluable role in the community over the years.

Twenty years ago, the East Atlanta Library opened its doors to the community, becoming a cornerstone for education, exploration, and connection. Over the years, it has transformed into more than just a place to check out books. It has become a vibrant hub for workshops, children’s programs, and community events that reflect the heart and soul of East Atlanta. The library has adapted to the changing needs of its patrons, embracing technology while maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere.

In 2015, the Northwest Library quickly established itself as a cherished resource through engaging programs and initiatives that cater to all age groups. From summer reading challenges to digital literacy courses, Northwest Library has worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone in the community feels welcome and supported.

The Alpharetta Library opened its doors in 2015 to meet the growing demand for educational resources and community programming in the area. With a commitment to innovation and creativity, the Alpharetta Library has become a place where people can gather, learn, and thrive together.

You can read more about the history of each branch here!

To commemorate these milestones, each library is celebrating by providing something exciting to the community.

On June 12th, the East Atlanta Library hosted a vibrant book sale and celebration to mark its 20th anniversary. The event featured a diverse selection of books at great prices, attracting avid readers and families alike. Patrons enjoyed live music, engaging storytelling sessions, and craft workshops that catered to all ages.  Over $1,500 was raised selling over 700 books to raise funds for programs at the East Atlanta Library! Patrons enjoyed delicious popsicles, received beautiful art creations, painted faces, and more!

Come indulge your sweet tooth at the Northwest and Alpharetta Libraries as each branch will serve up delicious cake and refreshments, all while enjoying the company of fellow library lovers. There will be engaging activities for all ages—so bring your family and friends! The festivities will begin at noon at the Northwest Library and at 10:00 am at the Alpharetta Library. Let’s celebrate ten years of creativity, learning, and connection. Join us as we cut the cake and toast to many more years of discovery and growth at the Northwest and Alpharetta Libraries.

These anniversaries remind us of the pivotal role libraries play in our lives. They are places where knowledge is shared, friendships are formed, and imagination flourishes. Each library has contributed not only to our individual growth but to the community’s vibrant culture.

As we celebrate the achievements of East Atlanta, Northwest, and Alpharetta Libraries, let’s acknowledge the staff, volunteers, Friends members, and patrons who have contributed to their success. Their passion for literacy and community engagement has not only shaped these libraries but continues to inspire future generations.

We invite everyone in the community to participate in the upcoming events and celebrate the milestones of our libraries. Visit fulcolibrary.org for more details on how you can get involved. Let's come together to honor these wonderful institutions that have served us so well and look forward to many more years of enriching experiences!

Happy Anniversary, once again, to East Atlanta (20 years), Northwest (10 years), and Alpharetta (10 years) Libraries! Here’s to more stories, more connections, and more adventures ahead!

We’re so excited to share that The Library Dads were featured on the Today Show!

In April, Craig Melvin from NBC’s Today Show visited the Wolf Creek Library to meet with our amazing founder, Khari Arnold, along with the awesome group of dads known as the Library Dads! They shared their love for reading, the importance of the library, and the thrilling adventures of fatherhood and brotherhood. The best part? They talked about the special bonds they’ve created with each other and their kids!

The Library Dads kicked off their journey in the summer of 2024, starting with a fun get-to-know-you meeting at the Wolf Creek Library. What began as a small gathering has grown into a fantastic community of dads and their little ones, all excited about the "3 B's": Bonding, Books, and Brotherhood.

The Library Dads provide a warm and inviting space where fathers can bring their children to dive into the wonderful world of reading. They enjoy exploring the library together, engaging in fun activities like building with blocks and puzzles, and having story times that bring stories to life. Plus, they love planning fun outings to popular spots around Atlanta, like the incredible Georgia Aquarium, making special memories along the way!

As the Library Dads approach their one-year anniversary this summer, they couldn’t be more excited! They’re gearing up to spread their joy and engaging events to even more branches in the Fulton County Library System, making reading and bonding a fun experience for even more families in our community.

Don’t miss the awesome segment on NBC’s Today show to learn more about these fantastic dads and their wonderful kids! It's bound to bring a smile to your face!

A big shoutout to Manager Tisa Jackson at the Wolf Creek Library for her support of this program, and of course, to The Library Dads for their commitment to making reading fun and showcasing how incredible dads can be!

Thank you to the Today Show team and Craig Melvin for shining a light on these fantastic individuals! We truly appreciate it!

Director’s Blog – May 2025 https://www.fulcolibrary.org/blogs/post/directors-blog-may-2025/ Fri, 16 May 2025 16:20:42 +0000 https://www.fulcolibrary.org/?p=9549734 It is graduation season, and everyone is congratulated on reaching that milestone. Also, everyone who supported, encouraged, financed, and mentored a graduate, congratulations to you.

Amid the excitement of the moment, it must not be lost that a lot of time, hard work, joy, and pain goes into reaching for that pinnacle of success. It may not be easy for some people, but it is worthwhile.

Also, libraries most surely had a starring role as you sought to fulfill your goals.

Now and for numerous years, the doors of all types of libraries welcomed users, seeking to fulfill their educational needs. Students and researchers have utilized books onsite; checked out books that were on hold for pickup and used the inter-library loan process, or checked out a laptop, to meet assignments. A library card in good standing is the only thing needed at the public library to take home materials.

Additionally, Library employees find joy helping students locate that last tidbit of needed information. It is what we do.

Finally, the road to educational success starts in childhood. Here’s hoping you can inspire a child to love libraries and reading. Those connections to the written word can lead kids to great heights as they navigate reading, learning, and researching at every school level. Libraries are the repository of our collective thought.

Go to your favorite library and browse around. Become a student of the world.
