Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute Civil and Structural Design
NEW CANCER INSTITUTE OFFERS WORLD-CLASS TREATMENT IN SMALL-TOWN SETTING
Penn State Hershey’s Cancer Institute, a comprehensive cancer center, consolidates patient care and academic research in one facility to offer exceptional care. The five-level facility is physically linked to the main hospital in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Campus by a single-level, steel-frame bridge, providing easy access to additional care and resources.
What We Did
Gannett Fleming provided structural and site utility/civil for the new facility. The structural scheme incorporates structural steel framing supported by a deep-type foundation system. To support the facility’s specialized equipment and in anticipation of future expansions, Gannett Fleming relocated utilities and added new utilities. The firm realigned the existing roadways and parking areas to provide better accessibility to the institute and the adjacent hospital, and incorporated Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps into the design for ease of accessibility.
