The $900 million Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation (CSVT) project, is a critical highway link that aims to connect the central part of the state from Selinsgrove to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Extensive planning and public engagement navigated challenges such as environmental impacts, unstable fly ash basins, and land acquisition.

“The preliminary alignment went over some fly ash basins that were initially thought to be stable enough. The basins’ stability was affected by underground springs. We found it was like toothpaste. Ultimately, [the highway] needed to go around them,” said David Hamlet, PE, vice president and project manager.

The northern section, completed in 2022, includes a notable 4,545-foot-long bridge over the Susquehanna River. The southern section is anticipated to be complete in 2027. Gannett Fleming served as the northern section’s construction inspector and the southern section’s final designer. The project addresses significant transportation needs, reduces local road traffic, and enhances regional connectivity.
